FAQ What is NFC?

What is NFC?

NFC stands für "Near Field Communication". It is an international standard for contactless data transmission by radio technology over a short range of a few centimetres.

What is an NFC tag?

A "tag" is a (RFID) radio chip, which can be read with NFC-enabled devices, such as smartphones. Due to a magnetic coil integrated in the chip's transponder, NFC tags do not need batteries, but are activated by the user's reading device (e.g. smartphone). A wide range of tag types is available, in different sizes and shapes, and with different memory capacities and other features.

Which devices support NFC?

The list of NFC-enabled end-user devices is growing all the time. Major producers, including HTC, LG, Nokia, Samsung, Sony, and many others offer NFC-enabled smartphones and tablets. With its next generation of iPhones, Apple too will support NFC functionality. As well as mobile devices, other types of equipment with NFC technology are available, including notebooks and televisions.
